The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry first published in 1905. The story tells of a young husband and wife and how they deal with the challenge of buying secret Christmas gifts for each other with very little money. You can read a PDF copy here Gift of the Magi.
A Christmas carol by Charles Dickens first published in 1843 is also a classic story about Ebenezer Scrooge and his greed. Many of us watch the 1952 Alastair Sim movie on Christmas eve so why not read the actual story this year.
